ep 8: Shame is a Shithead

This week in episode 8, Deanna and Frances discuss the difference between shame vs. guilt. We promise there is a HUGE difference. (0:25) Deanna kicks off the episode quickly talking about the outcome of the Hilarious Humanitarian fundraiser benefiting the families of the Thomas Fire in Ventura, CA. (3:55) The women talk about the difference between shame and guilt and (7:55) Deanna discusses when she felt shame about how she felt as a new mother after the birth of her daughter. Frances also shares her own past shame related to the expectations of mothers, bonding and new parents in general. (12:10) Deanna talks about how “she has bucked the system” and starts letting go of all the expectations in order to manage her sanity and the women talk about their support system and how to manage their emotional hangups. (18:20) Vulnerability and perceptions of how it is viewed is discussed & how we deal with the experience of feeling like we are “emotionally exposed.” (23:20) The women talk about how we are living in an age when everyone is a critic and how it would benefit us all if we can sometimes stfu. The importance of a strengths based approach (24:45) is explored and (32:00) the birth of the hashtag #ShameisaShithead happens.
