Sock Puppet Portrait of Zimmy Zambini (White Frame)

  • Be Back Soon

This is a framed photograph of Sock Puppet Zimmy Zambini, numbered and editioned by artist Marty Allen

*** Zimmy Zambini. Circus Orphan. Exceptional acrobat. Possibly Psychic. ***

The Sock Puppet Portraits offered are each presented in charming baroque mini-frames that measure 3.5" x 4.5". Each photograph is carefully printed by artist Marty Allen, on archival-quality ink and paper.

He frames each piece, paints their frames (when applicable), and they are finished under a thin sheet of plastic to protect them from those darned elements. The back of each frame is then secured with archival tape. The character-specific ID tag on the back is signed and dated (with the year made) by the artist.

Marty Allen is a multi-disciplinary artist and writer living in Brooklyn. He has been making and selling pictures of sock puppets for over a decade. With the Sock Puppet Portraits, he tries to make affordable art for cool and weird kids of all ages. And in everything he makes, he aims to create work that is accessible, well-made, and fun. In 2005 Marty moved to New York and noticed that several people were selling their art in Union Square Park. He filled a green suitcase with small framed photographs of sock puppets, dragged it through the subway and planted it on a TV tray in the park, and a bizarre career was born. Over the years he has created hundreds of portraits and thousands of puppets. They all have names and stories. Some have songs, others star in videos, many are tied to his multimedia band, it's a whole thing. Somewhere along the way he relented to public pressure and started selling a few of the real puppets, too. His first book, Sock Puppet Madness, was published as a direct result of this mad pursuit, and he couldn't begin to articulate how many strange and wonderful collaborations and situations have been born of it. As an artist, he is chasing a sense of wonder and moments of real and honest connection. Wonderful connection. To you, to Marty, to the universe, to all of the stuff. It is an honor every time he can make a piece of art and sell it someone.
